Dawn Returns To Virginia
We had a "BBQ" at Rhonda's (my sister) and everyone came over
to say hello to Dawn, and those who did not get a chance last trip got to meet her. We had a blast.

The trip to Monticello was very nice. For those of you who do not
knoe=w anything about I"ll fill you in a little. Monticello was the home of Thomas Jefferson, our 3d President. Before
becoming the president he was known for writing the Declaaration Of Indepence. Thomas Jefferson was involved in every
aspect of designing Monitcello. We were only allowed to tour the ground floor on the inside but it was amazing. The
grounds were beautiful I can't imagine seeing the gardens in full bloom. If you ever make it to Charlotesville Virginia Monticello
is a must.

Convience Store... |

|
This convience store is at the orignal site of Ike Godsey's Store which has burned to the ground. |
The Walton's is still one of our favorite shows. I watch
it all the time on TV Land, thank God for reruns eh? Ooops that's a Candian influence, wonder wher that came from, heehee.
Walton's mountain is in Schuyler Virginia. The show is
called the Walton's but we all know that the stories are based on the life of the author Earl Hamner, Jr. Seeing his home
was a real treat for me. It sits right across the street from the Walton Museum. At the museum we saw a short film about the
show and it had interviews with some of the actors, it was great. They had rooms set up just as they appeared on the show,
so we saw John Boy's room, heehee. Leave it to Dawn to get us in a mans room, lmao, just kiddin sis ;) We had planned
on eating at the Schuyler diner which is next door to the museum but as luck would have it they were closed that week, go
figure. So we got lunch from the little convience store just down the road which is on the orignal site of Ike AGodsey's store.
That's where we met our beagle friend. The drive in the mountains was beautiful and the weather was great for the trip.
We made a new friend at the convience store |

Isn't he just too cute?? We thought so |

I could see me being very happy living there |
The Shirley and Berkley Plantations were awsome. We got
to tour the ground floors but were not allowed to visit the upper floors because families still live there today. The plantations
are less than 30 minutes from my house and I have wanted to see them forever, but go figure, it took Dawn coming from Canada
to get me there, lol. I think the inside of Shirley would have to be my favorite. However, I think the grounds at Berkely
were better. They both had amazing views of the James River, which was the best mode of transportation in that day.

Cemetery Hoppin..... can you believe it I had Dawn cemetery
hopping, and I think she actually enjoyed it, lol. The pictures below are just a few of the sites at the famous Hollywood
Cemetry perched on the bluffs above the James River in Richmond Virginia. I had visited this cemtery as a teenager
but could not appreciate the art of cemtery hopping at that age I guess. Little did Dawn know that day that this was not to
be her only cemtery hopping while she was here :)
Me with the Iron Dog |

|
One story of the iron dog is that he was placed here on the
grave site of a little girl who used to pass by him (he was a display at a business) every day for a visit on her way to school.
He was built 1859 and 1898 by the Waywood & Bartlett Iron Company.
